Mailcow is a popular open-source email server and webmail client that enables users to create and manage their email accounts, domains, and user policies. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps to install Mailcow on EndeavourOS.
Before starting, it is always a good idea to update your system to ensure that all software packages are up-to-date. Open the terminal and type the following command:
sudo pacman -Syu
This command will check for any available updates and install them if found.
Mailcow requires Docker and Docker Compose installed on your system to function correctly. To install Docker, run the following command in the terminal:
sudo pacman -S docker
Once the installation completes, start the Docker service and enable it to start automatically on system boot.
sudo systemctl start docker
sudo systemctl enable docker
To install Docker Compose, run the following command in the terminal:
sudo pacman -S docker-compose
Next, we will clone the Mailcow Git repository to our system. Open the terminal and navigate to the directory where you want to install the Mailcow files, then run the following command:
git clone https://github.com/mailcow/mailcow-dockerized.git
The Mailcow configuration file is located in the mailcow-dockerized directory that we cloned from GitHub previously. Navigate to this directory by running the following command in the terminal:
cd mailcow-dockerized
In this directory, we will customize the Mailcow configuration. To do this, we will copy the sample.env file and create a .env file.
cp sample.env .env
Now, edit the .env file with your preferred editor.
nano .env
In the editor, update the following values:
MAILCOW_HOSTNAME=mail.example.com
Replace mail.example.com with your domain name. Also, specify your email address and password for the admin account.
POSTMASTER_PASSWORD=mailcow
ADMIN_PASS=mailcow
You can also configure SSL certificates in the .env file.
After completing the Mailcow configuration, run the following command in the directory where you have the docker-compose.yml file:
docker-compose pull
docker-compose up -d
Wait for the installation to complete.
You should now be able to access the Mailcow webmail client by navigating to https://mail.example.com in your web browser. Replace mail.example.com with your domain name.
